Valuation Disclaimer
What’s It Worth values are algorithmic market estimates from public sold listings — not certified appraisals for insurance, tax, estate or legal use.
What’s It Worth helps you figure out what an item might be and roughly what similar items have sold for. It is a research tool, not an appraiser. Please read this page before relying on any number you see in the app or on whatsitworthguide.com.
1. Estimates, not appraisals
Every value range shown by What’s It Worth is an algorithmic estimate generated from public sold-listing data, such as completed eBay sales and auction results. It is not a certified appraisal, has not been prepared by a credentialed appraiser, and does not follow the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
2. Do not use estimates for these purposes
Our estimates are not suitable, and must not be used, for:
- Insurance coverage, scheduling, or claims.
- Estate settlement, probate, or estate and gift tax filings.
- Charitable donation deductions, including any “qualified appraisal” required for IRS Form 8283.
- Divorce, bankruptcy, litigation, or any other legal proceeding.
- Loans, collateral, or financial reporting.
3. Why an estimate can be wrong
- Identification errors. Our models work from your photos. Lighting, angles, missing marks, reproductions, and look-alike items can lead to a wrong match.
- Condition. Photos cannot reveal everything: repairs, restorations, odors, hidden damage, or missing parts can change value dramatically.
- Thin or noisy data. Rare items may have few comparable sales. Sold listings can include mislabeled items, shill bidding, or unusual one-off results.
- Market changes. Prices move with trends, seasons, and economic conditions. Past sales do not guarantee future prices.
- Fees and costs. Ranges reflect sale prices, not what you take home after marketplace fees, shipping, and taxes.
4. No guarantee of sale price
We do not guarantee that you can sell any item at, above, or near the estimated range, or that anyone will buy it at all.
5. Authenticity is not verified
What’s It Worth does not authenticate items. A match to a known brand, maker, or artist means the item looks similar to items sold under that name, not that it is genuine. Never represent an item as authentic to a buyer based on our results.
6. When to call a professional
If an item may be worth a significant amount, or you need a value for any purpose listed in Section 2, consult a qualified, independent appraiser. Credentialed members of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), the Appraisers Association of America (AAA), or the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) can provide a formal written appraisal. For authentication, consider a recognized specialist in that category.
7. Affiliate links do not affect estimates
Some “Sell it” and comp links earn us a commission. Those relationships never influence value ranges. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
8. Limitation of liability
You use estimates at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, WhatsItWorth Labs, Inc. is not liable for any loss arising from reliance on an estimate, identification, or comp, as further described in our Terms of Service.
